Hi. I'm so happy to finally be here. All my life I've said that I wanted to be a writer. Well, guess what? Writers write;and I wasn't writing. Well, that's not exactly true. I wrote constantly for work. As the Executive Director of the Literacy Coalition in New Brunswick, Canada, I was writing press releases, business plans, funding proposals, correspondence, speeches, directories, minutes of meetings, website content, annual reports, conference reports, a family-child literacy curriculum and booklets.

There were times while writing for my "job" when my writing was praised. And I did get published by writing a chapter titled, "The Influence of Significant Males on Boys' Literacy Levels," in a book titled, "Adult Literacy Now!" I must say I was proud of that chapter! The editor called me to say she read it first as an editor while she did her editorial job, but then she read it for the pure pleasure of it. Wow! That made me feel so good.

I've also written scripts for radio, newspapers and magazines. While working I also attended University and so I did a lot of writing there as well. I won a few awards in my English Lit classes. My professors were very supportive and encouraging. One of the last papers I wrote was for a sociology class. The professor said he felt the paper should be published! And he said it was an absolute pleasure to read - he read it more than once! Can you imagine?

Along with the technical ability to write, one needs life experience, the gift that provides a solid base of knowledge from which to draw upon in order to write informative, thoughtful and well researched articles with authority and authenticity. My education and experience give me the knowledge base to write about many subjects; some of which include reading, writing, literacy, learning disabilities, environment, ecology, gardening, decorating, wildlife, photography, journalism and real estate to name a few.

Recently my husband and I moved to my century old family homestead in rural New Brunswick which we are renovating. With this change in lifestyle I had the time to search for opportunities to actually be a writer. I discovered Suite 101 and, well, here I am, writing. I hope you enjoy reading my articles as much as I enjoy writing them.
